Expansion FAQs

• What is the cost of the Capital Expansion project?

  The total amount needed to fully fund this project is currently estimated at $16,000,000 from all sources.

• When will the expanded Family Center be completed?

  We finalized the expansion design with architects and our construction management team in the fall 2019, and  we broke ground in mid-2019. Our goal for completion of the Expansion Project is mid 2021.

• What does the Expansion Project include?

  AQUATICS CENTER EXPANSION
  Add new pool and upgrade existing pool to:
  • Meet demand for swim lessons.
  • Offer more youth water safety programs.
  • Offer more non-impact exercise.
  • Bring swim team back to the Y.
  
  SPORTS AND RECREATION CENTER EXPANSION
  Construction of new full-size gymnasium providing:
  • Enough room for youth and adult basketball games and practice.
  • Flexibility to divide into two side-by-side courts for volleyball, basketball and other activities.
  
  WELLNESS AND FITNESS CENTER EXPANSION
  • Expand Fitness Center and re-purpose existing spaces.
  • Offer more programs to manage and prevent chronic disease.
  • Create meeting/gathering spaces for small groups.
  
  MEMBER, PROGRAM AND STAFF ENHANCEMENTS
  Support members and staff by enhancing and relocating small group, community and staff gathering and workspaces around the facility.

• Do my membership fees go toward this project?

  No. Membership fees are used for operations including utilities and salary.

• What is the difference between the Capital Campaign and the Y’s Annual Fundraising Campaign?

  A capital campaign builds facilities. Our Annual Campaign provides financial assistance for all people, regardless of their ability to pay. A successful YMCA needs generous donors for both annual and capital campaigns.

• Will the Y continue fundraising activities for the Annual Campaign during the Capital Campaign?

  YES! Our combined community campaign "Our Community Our Future" Campaign, includes the Annual and Capital Funds. The Annual Campaign provides the funds needed for people in our community to have life-changing access to the programs and services of the YMCA. Raising funds for financial support is foundational to our mission as a non-profit organization. Our community is encouraged to support our mission by giving to both the Annual and Capital Campaigns.

• How can I help financially and / or by fundraising?

• Will you receive funds from the National Office / YUSA for this project?

  No. While the YMCA of the USA provides training, guidance and expertise, the Madison Area YMCA is an independent and locally owned nonprofit organization. We rely on our fundraising efforts to support the needs of our community.
