Madison Area YMCA 2015 Summer Session Registration, Classes and Hours

(Madison, NJ) June 1, 2015- Summer Session 2015 at the Madison Area YMCA begins on Monday, June 22. Summer hours also go into effect from Monday, June 22, until Tuesday, September 8.

Priority member registration begins on Tuesday, June 9, at 7:30 p.m. online or in person. Registration opens for all members of the community on Tuesday, June16, at 7:30 a.m. Members may continue to register online or in person. 

Classes in the enrichment, sports and gymnastics departments include:

Let’s Make Music is a 6-week class for 4-6 year olds who will make homemade instruments, learn about rhythm, how different types of instruments work and simple songs. This class is offered Fridays from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Girls Swinger is a 10-week class for 7+ year olds who are at the intermediate skill level—those who have a strong foundation of gymnastics skills and are ready to learn more advanced elements while continuing to increase coordination , balance, strength and flexibility. Girls will begin to learn basic sequencing for gymnastics development and coordination. This class is offered Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Wednesdays from 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

One-hour private gymnastics lessons are also available for $65 per hour.

Basketball is a 10-week class for kindergartners-2nd graders (Level 1) and 2nd-4th graders (Level 2). Level 1 will work on basic skills and rules of basketball and learn about the court layout through mini games and activities. Level 2 will build on Level 1 and add defense, positioning and movement. Level 2 will advance Level 1 skills and have more game playing. Level 1 is offered Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. and Thursdays from 4:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Level 2 is offered Wednesdays from 4:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Floor Hockey is a 10-week class for kindergartners - 2nd graders to learn the basics including stick handling, passing and shooting. Both mini games and games play will be included.  This class is offered Tuesdays from 4:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Indoor Soccer is a 10- week class for kindergartners - 2nd graders that focuses on the basics and fundamentals of soccer such as passing, shooting and dribbling. Game play and mini games are incorporated. This class is offered Fridays from 4:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Sports Sampler, designed for kindergartners –1st  graders, is a fun class where each week children will have the chance to play a different sport or game such as basketball, floor hockey or Kickball. This class is offered Tuesdays from 5:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Advanced Basketball is a 10-week class for 4th -6th graders is our most advanced level of basketball instruction. The class focuses on the intricacies of the game including spacing, varying types of offense and defense and teamwork development. Games will be played throughout the course. This class is offered Mondays from 4:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Strength & Athlete Training is a 10-week class for 4th -7th graders that is designed to improve and enhance athletic performance at all levels of competition that will be beneficial to any sport—all aspect of athletic training will be covered including speed, agility reaction, endurance, strength, power and quickness. The class will be taught by instructors who have extensive coaching experience with adolescents. This class is offered Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m.

Kids Central babysitting now offers an UNLIMITED babysitting membership. Add-on available for Family and Single Family memberships for unlimited usage of Kids Central babysitting--$20 monthly draft.

Straps & Steel for adults is designed to improve functional movement, increase core strength and maximize metabolic after-burn! Resistance training and multi-planar movement of two of the most effective pieces of equipment in the gym is used in a small group setting. This workout will deliver results! An additional fee applies for this class.

The YMCA offers hundreds of specialty classes and numerous competitive team opportunities for children. Financial Assistance may be available.
