Fineman, Jensen and Kean Join the Madison Area YMCA Board of Directors

(Madison, NJ) May 24, 2016 –The Madison Area YMCA is pleased to announce that Y members and community leaders Deborah Berna Fineman, Steven Jensen and Michelle Kean were appointed to its Board of Directors, effective May 19. 

“We are delighted to welcome Debbie, Steve and Michelle to the Board,” said Madison Area YMCA President & CEO Diane Mann. “We are confident that the addition of their unique talents and community service experience will enhance the leadership that is characteristic of all of our Board members.”

Florham Park native Deborah Fineman of Madison is President and General Counsel of Supreme Energy, Inc., an energy supply company in Orange, NJ. Active Y member Michelle Kean is a Chatham resident who co-led the Madison Area Y’s 2016 Annual Campaign to a record-breaking fundraising goal this spring. Florham Park resident Steve Jensen is owner and founder of Jensen Construction Co. Both Ms. Fineman and Mr. Jensen also serve on the Madison Y’s Capital Expansion Steering Committee.

Prior to serving as Supreme Energy’s General Counsel, Ms. Fineman clerked for the Honorable Nicholas H. Politan, United States District Court for New Jersey, and was in private law practice. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University and a Juris Doctorate from Yeshiva University, and was an adjunct professor at Seton Hall Law School. She is a member of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, District V-A Ethics Committee.

In addition to her professional commitments, Ms. Fineman served two terms as President of Congregation Beth Hatikvah in Summit and has held a number of other Board positions there. She has been an active volunteer at the T.E.A.M. charter schools in Newark for many years. In 2016 she was appointed to the Madison Area YMCA’s Capital Expansion Steering Committee.

Steven Jensen of Florham Park is a general contractor and founder of Jensen Construction Co. based in Florham Park. Expanding on his volunteer work, Mr. Jensen joined the Madison Area YMCA’s Capital Expansion Steering Committee in 2015 and has participated in developing details of the early project planning and Feasibility Study.

An active member of the Madison Area YMCA, Mr. Jensen is a member of the Madison Chamber of Commerce, New Jersey Builders Association, Metropolitan Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders, with certifications including Certified Graduate Remodeler and Certified Green Professional. He has earned numerous Builders Association Awards of Excellence for both residential and commercial projects.  Among his many volunteer projects, Mr. Jensen has served as a softball coach for Florham Park Recreation, the Florham Park Downtown Development and Capital Improvement Committees and the Jerry Gibson Memorial Youth Summer Theater.

A native of Livingston, Mr. Jensen graduated from Stockton State College in Pomona and attended the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He was a project superintendent with T.J. McGlone & Co., Inc. and construction superintendent at The Gilchrist Partnership, AIA, before founding his own company in 1985.

Michelle Kean of Chatham, a community volunteer and financial services professional, is an active member of the Madison Area YMCA where she co-chaired, with Board Member Jeff Gapusan, the Madison Area YMCA’s 2016 Annual Campaign, helping it to surpass its target of $375,000 and recording the largest single-year Campaign result to date. She currently serves on the Board of the Chatham Newcomers Club, working to promote membership, recruit new volunteers and plan events. 

Mrs. Kean worked for 15 years in New York in the financial services and insurance industries, primarily focusing on annuity and life insurance marketing. Most recently, she worked at AXA Financial as a writer and marketing professional for nearly 10 years. Mrs. Kean joined the Madison Area YMCA three years ago when her family moved to Chatham. Since then, her children have enjoyed many of the Y's athletic, enrichment and day camp programs. A native of Westfield, she also attended YMCA programs and summer camps as a child. Ms. Kean serves as a member of the Madison Area YMCA Philanthropy and Annual Campaign Committees.
