Family Wellness Conference on Saturday, February 11,
at the F.M. Kirby Children’s Center of the Madison Area YMCA

(Madison, NJ) – February 1, 2017—Parents in the community are invited to a Family Wellness Conference at the F.M. Kirby Children’s Center of the Madison Area YMCA, located at 54 East Street in Madison on Saturday, February 11.

Kirby Wellness Conference

The conference is free of charge except for the CPR/First Aid training session. Free babysitting is available. Registration is required--either at the F.M. Kirby Children’s Center or the Madison Area YMCA’s Family Center, located at 111 Kings Road in Madison. Registration will also be accepted via telephone. The Kirby Center’s number is 973.377.4945. The Family Center’s number is 973.822.9622.

Sessions include:
8:00 a.m. - 9:15 a.m.
Yoga and Meditation Learn meditation techniques that calm and focus your thoughts while centering your mind on the unlimited good qualities of all people, situations and, most importantly, family. Presented by: Certified yoga instructor Heather Pflug.

9:15 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
An Area Expert’s Guide to Find Everything! Become an instant expert on the best kids’ parks, weekend getaways, date night restaurants, hospitals, pediatricians and more. Presented by: Sales associate and realtor for Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Karen Canniffe.

9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.
Nutrition Learn about healthy eating, how to develop healthy relationships with food beginning at infancy and how to help a picky eater try new foods. Presented by: Lauren Udall, RD, prenatal and pediatric dietician.

Financial Planning for Education Learn fundamental concepts to help build financial security, including the three different savings accounts you need, ways to reduce debt, how to save for college, retirement savings strategies, how life insurance really works and more. Presented by financial advisor Debbie McBride.

10:45 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Diabetes Prevention One third of all adults are estimated to have prediabetes. The fastest rising age group is now under 45. Learn your risk with a brief written assessment and about prevention opportunities. Presented by: Madison Area YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program Coordinator Ellen Kranefuss.

11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
Ensuring Proper Oral and Dental Health Learn about the problems that can directly or indirectly affect breastfeeding, swallowing, speech, facial aesthetics and the stability of orthodontic treatment. Learn what to look for and how to take early steps that can minimize the need for extensive and expensive treatment later. Presented by: Adams Dental.

Scream Free Parenting Explore how to build strong relationships and a more peaceful home with “The Power of the Pause.” Learn how to be a cool, calm and connected parent even during the most challenging times. Presented by: Certified Parent Coach Peggy Fitzpatrick.

8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Adult and Pediatric CPR/First Aid Training American Red Cross certification valid for two years: Led by: Certified CPR and First Aid Trainers Ashley Hendricks and Stephanie Massaro. Cost: $90 for materials. Light lunch included.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training Mental health awareness removes the stigma attached to mental health related concerns. Led by Certified Mental Health Trainer Matt Kovacs, this training will give you the tools to assist youth who may be experiencing mental health problems in crisis and non-crisis situations. Learn to recognize signs and symptoms of possible mental illness in children as young as 12 and become empowered to help youth in crisis.
