(Madison, NJ) November 14, 2018 – The Madison Area YMCA’s recipient of the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance 2018 Youth Volunteer of the Year award is Lauren Schiffman, a 15-year-old sophomore at Hanover Park High School.

Growing up, the Madison Area YMCA was always a significant part of Lauren’s life. She was a Madison Area Y camper for many years and participated in youth programs including the Teen Leaders program. During the past two years, Lauren completed more than 50 volunteer hours at the Madison Area YMCA’s Kids Central, the Y’s indoor playground, where she demonstrated leadership skills, a positive attitude and a genuine love for giving back.

“The Madison Area Y is honored to recognize Lauren,” said Madison Area YMCA President & CEO Diane Mann. “She is a role model for the children that she interacts with in Kids Central. We are grateful for Lauren’s dedication to youth development and social responsibility.

“I feel extremely honored to have received the award from the Madison YMCA as the volunteer of the year,” said Lauren. “I have enjoyed every second of my two years of volunteering, and it was extremely rewarding and validating to be recognized.”

The New Jersey YMCA State Alliance, comprised of 37 YMCAs, annually celebrates the champions of New Jersey YMCAs and honors those who have helped strengthen their communities through their work in youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Each YMCA puts forth its Youth Volunteer of the Year to be recognized.

The Madison Area YMCA is a 501(c)(3) cause-driven charitable organization dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. All are welcome to be enriched by Y membership, programming, community wellness and health-enhancing programs, regardless of ability to pay. Generous donations to the Madison Area YMCA’s Annual Fund make it possible for everyone in our community to experience the Y.
