(Madison, NJ) – May 20, 2025–  On Saturday, April 12, 2025, the Madison Area YMCA proudly hosted its very first Masters Mariners Invitational, welcoming 96 swimmers between the ages of 18 and 79. Representing 20 Masters swim teams from across the region, participants dove into a day filled with camaraderie, competition, and community spirit.

The Invitational was more than just a swim meet—it was a celebration of lifelong fitness and friendship. Swimmers of all levels and backgrounds came together in the Y’s Walker D. Kirby Aquatics Center to showcase their love for the sport in a warm, inclusive, and encouraging environment that truly embodied the values of the YMCA.

“The atmosphere was energetic and supportive, with athletes cheering each other on and celebrating every finish—whether first or last,” said Associate Aquatics Director Caitlin Balagtas. “One of the most special moments for me was having my mother there. It was truly a flashback moment for both of us since she hadn’t watched me swim in a meet in nearly 15 years-it was an unforgettable moment for us both.”

“We are incredibly proud of how this event united our members, families, and the broader swimming community,” said Senior Aquatics Director Yean Jimenez. “It was inspiring to see such a diverse group of swimmers come together and support one another in such a meaningful way.”

Building on the success of this spring’s event, the Madison Area YMCA is thrilled to announce its second Masters swim meet: "Masters Cornucopia Cup," scheduled for Sunday, November 23, 2025. This festive fall meet will include 25-yard events for even more racing fun and accessibility. In addition, three team trophies will be awarded based on total points, offering a new layer of friendly team competition.

Swimmers of all abilities are invited to join in for another exciting day of racing and community spirit as we kick off the holiday season with a splash. Registration details will be available in mid-September. The Mariners Masters swimmers practice at the Madison Area YMCA on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6-7 AM and 7:30-8:30 PM.
