(Madison, NJ) October 9, 2020 – The F.M. Kirby Children’s Center of the Madison Area YMCA provides a supportive and highly enriching educational environment for its students and their families. To enhance the health and safety of all and provide as much normalcy as possible during these challenging times, the Center continued its annual fall Back to School Night tradition with a virtual gathering.

Classrooms came to life during the weeklong welcome. Preschool teachers held meetings for parents to virtually visit their child’s classroom, gain a stronger understanding about curriculum and teaching strategies, and to learn about age-appropriate developmental objectives and goals.

The Kirby teachers detailed a day in each classroom, showcasing the interest areas, sometimes referred to as a “center” that their child frequents, and further explained the many ways in which meaningful learning takes place. Teachers also shared plans for expanding social, emotional, physical, language and cognitive areas of development.

While discussing the Creative Curriculum, teachers reviewed the core aspects of early childhood education, including child development, content knowledge, and instructional strategies. “Our skilled and creative teachers develop lessons that encourage students to learn through structured activities while preparing for the next levels of education and competency with literacy and mathematics, science and technology, and social studies and the arts, explained Center Director Karé Matrisciano. She added, “Regular parent-teacher conferences and child assessments throughout the year ensure both parents and students set appropriate objectives to assist in development and success.”
